The Daily Pulse:

KAT's Super Fancy New Website

So I was just writing this week's "Meet Your City" blurb, where I tell you the must-attend municipal events for the following week, when I came across Knoxville Area Transit's new website, katbus.com.

If you had ever visited the former site, you'll immediately note this is quite an upgrade. There are sound effects of the street (played in a loop that cycles forever, or until you smash the mute button on your keyboard), fancy blurred-motion photos, and space age animations for pulling up different sections of the site. It actually looks like a legit transit website.

Just a few gripes: there's no trip planner, at least as far as I can tell, where you can enter your starting and ending points and it'll tell you which buses to take; the maps and routes are contained in PDF files, rather than on the site; and most of it's Flash, so won't work on your iPhone. Also, those sound effects and animations seem a bit much.

Still, good effort, KAT! Now, go tell your cousin, knoxcounty.org, to get his shit together.
