CULTCHA
Noon, Knoxville Visitor Center, WDVX Blue Plate Special. Free.
A D.C. troubadour and a Maine rocker who sang on the Grease movie soundtrack and whose 1978 debut album is described on allmusic.com as "one of the great lost rock albums of the '70s."
Vicki Blankenship with Collective Jam Band
8 p.m., Relix Variety Theatre. Free.
Blankenship, who treads turf not far from Lucinda Williams', was in town this weekend for the IndieGRRL conference, and sticks around for the weekly Listen Up Knoxville show at Relix.
10 p.m., Preservation Pub. $3.
Get your week started right with some genuine imported West Coast glam and sleaze.
GUBMINT
Knox County Commission
2 p.m., Main Assembly Room, City County Building.
Your last chance to see the ol' 19-member body in action (or inaction) before the new, sleek, Slim-Fasted 11-member Commission takes office next month. The full agenda is here, but as you'd expect from lame ducks it's a lot of bookkeeping and backslapping, plus a little bit of immigration posturing courtesy of departing Commish Paul Pinkston. (The exceptions are some interesting resolutions asking incoming Mayor Tim Burchett to explore various things, including services provided by the Public Building Authority.)
ETC.
7 p.m., Blount County Library. Free.
A talk with photos by local resident Charles Carpenter, who has spent extensive time in the country.
