The Daily Pulse:

The Daily Plan-It: Monday, Aug. 9

Daily fact: Day of the Fat Man

CULTCHA

11 a.m., KnoxIvi. Free.
Randall Brown's band invades the studio.

Noon, Knoxville Visitor Center, WDVX Blue Plate Special. Free.
Coupla promising songstresses, one from Austin and one via Indiana.

8 p.m., the Valarium. $14-$19.
Aussie progenitors of the Free Hugs movement, along with a posse of hard-rawk friends. (I'm sort of a sucker for "Porn Star Dancing," a My Darkest Days song that is exactly as subtle as its title.)

The Lonetones with the Collective Jam Band
8 p.m., Relix Variety Theatre. Free.
Underappreciated local folk-rock outfit, with nice tunes and fine girl-guy harmonies.

10 p.m., Preservation Pub. $3.
Invaluable local sideman gets a night of his own. Worth turning up just to see who the "special guests" are.

GUBMINT

Knox County Board of Education workshop
5 p.m., 1st Floor, Andrew Johnson Building.
The school board gets ready for its Wednesday meeting. Here are the agendas for Monday and Wednesday.
