The Daily Pulse:

New UT Prez an Inside Job

As was widely expected on the Knoxville campus, the UT Board of Trustees on Friday morning selected Joe DiPietro, chancellor of UT's Institute of Agriculture, as the new university president. This marks the first time the Trustees have promoted from within the UT ranks since the selection of Joe Johnson in 1990. But the vote was close, with DiPietro outpolling Brian Noland, chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, by just 11-10.

DiPietro will be formally (re)introduced to the UT community at a news conference this afternoon.
