For years, it's been John Mayer's goal to realize a horror festival in the name of his good friend, the late Karl Wagner. (See "Is Knoxville Ready for a Karl Wagner Horror Festival?") The Knoxville ex-pat, author, and editor is still a recognized name around the world in the annals of horror fiction. In fact, the annual British Fantasy Awards include the Karl Edward Wagner Award; just last month, it was awarded to the late fantasy writer Robert Holdstock. But here in Knoxville, friends and family seem to be the only keepers of the Wagner flame.

As a placeholder, perhaps, Mayer has been holding a "Wagner Planning Dinner" each October to commemorate Wagner's death and to gather ideas for a full Wagner festival. It will be this Saturday (the 16th) at Patrick Sullivan's Saloon (on the second floor) in the Old City at 7 p.m.
Hardcore Wagner fans will be making the trek to raise a toast to Wagner in his home town, joining his old friends and former wife. If you're a local fan or reader of horror and fantasy, then this is your opportunity to learn more of this Knoxville legend.
