The Daily Pulse:

Davis-Kidd Booksellers to Close in Nashville

Just our cover story on the future of locally owned bookstores hit the streets, Davis-Kidd Booksellers -- which used to have a store in Knoxville -- filed a Chapter 11 petition in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. As part of its reorganization, the chain (owned by the Joseph-Beth Group) will be closing four of its stores, including the much-loved shop in Nashville's The Mall at Green Hills.

The Tennessean has reactions from shocked customers.

Meanwhile, our own Carpe Librum -- run by some former Davis-Kidd employees -- plans to shut its doors on Dec. 31.

It's the best of times and the worst of times for book readers, depending on how you like to partake your media.
