Just this summer, we reported that local Americana band Medford's Black Record Collection was gearing back up after a long unofficial hiatus. The band apparently never got back its momentum, though--they've just announced that their next round of local shows will be their last, culminating in an official farewell performance at Barley's on Saturday, Jan. 8. Matt Foster is moving to Texas, and Michael Davis will be leading his new band, the Wandering Plows.

After 5 years on the Knoxville music scene, Americana band Medford's Black Record Collection will play its final show at Barley's Taproom in Knoxville on Sat., January 8th at 9pm. Opening the show will be friends and collaborators Roman Reese and Sam Lewis, and the band will be joined by many other guests.Co-founding member Matt Foster will be re-locating to Austin, TX, while Michael Davis will remain in Knoxville and continue various other musical endeavors including a new project, Michael Davis and the Wandering Plows. The band has also included bassist Forrest Simpson in the past year. Past members include bassist Clint Mullican and drummer Dave Whitaker.Medford's independently released 2 albums, 2005's "The Flattville Murder Album," and 2008's "Eccentricity NOS." The band played throughout the Southeast, and are veterans of the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, The Knoxville Brewers' Jam, and won the 2007 Preservation Pub Singer Songwriter Contest.The Band will have several appearances before the farewell show, including i105.3's Homegrown on Dec 15th at the Disc Exchange at 7pm, and WDVX's Blue Plate Special on Fri., Jan 7th from the Square Room at noon.
