The Daily Pulse:

UT Architecture School Makes Top 20

In a first for the University of Tennessee's School of Architecture, its undergraduate program has made the top 20 list of a prominent architecture and design magazine. DesignIntelligence, a bi-monthly journal of the Design Futures Council, has been publishing rankings of undergraduate and graduate schools since 1998. In the current November/December issue, the Knoxville campus' program makes its debut on the list, tying for #20 with North Carolina State University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. (Because of ties, there are actually 22 schools on the list.) The only other SEC program to make the cut is Auburn's, at #18. The rankings are based on the magazine's survey of leading architecture firms across the country, who were asked "which college and university programs are best preparing students for professional practice." In a news release, Scott Wall, director of the School of Architecture, said, "The work that we do within the architecture curriculum, not only within our foundation design program, but also with the advent of design-build projects, transcends the boundaries of a traditional architecture education. We are collectively excited for the future of our program and our graduates in the field."
