Former City Councilman Rob Frost announced Monday afternoon that he will not be a candidate for mayor this year. In an email, he said:
I regret that I must announce I am unable to be a candidate for Mayor. With the unexpected passing of a close relative out of state last month, I have spent considerable time out of town in handling the affairs placed upon me. Even when I have been in Knoxville, my duties have consumed most of the time I had allocated for organizing and campaigning for this office. For the next two months my responsibilities will continue to demand time I would otherwise dedicate to preparing a serious and spirited campaign for the future of our city.
I would like to offer my appreciation and gratitude to those family members, friends and coworkers who have been volunteering and supporting me throughout.
I sincerely appreciate the opportunity the citizens of Knoxville gave me in serving them for two terms on Knoxville's City Council. Though I am no longer able to pursue the office of Mayor, I hope in the future to be able to serve our great city again.
Together with the withdrawal of Knox County Clerk Foster Arnett earlier this month, that narrows the field to four candidates--Ivan Harmon, Mark Padgett, Marilyn Roddy, and Madeline Rogero. Two men and two women, two Republicans and two Democrats (although, as everyone always insists on pointing out, it is a nonpartisan race). They are scheduled to meet for the first candidates' forum at 7 p.m. next Monday, Feb. 7, at Church Street United Methodist Church. The forum is organized by the Council of Involved Neighborhoods.
