There's not really much to say about this post on The Awl, except that it is kind of amazing. Not that there's anything surprising about it to anyone who knows anything, but just because it so vividly illustrates so many things: the state of race relations in post-Civil War America, the sneering attitude of East Coast elites toward Southerners of all races, and the just general appallingness of the whole thing. Fascinatin'.
