The Daily Pulse:

This Is Radio Steed

A nice bit of news to start off the week: Local NPR affiliate WUOT (91.9 FM) announces it is promoting regular jazz host, local music godfather, and all-around-good-guy Todd Steed to something called "jazz/radio operations coordinator." According to the press release, that means that in addition to overseeing the Improvisations jazz program--which is on weeknights from 6:30-8, with Steed hosting two of those nights--he will also help run the station's digital channel, WUOT-2, which you can hear through the WUOT website. All we know is that any business card that says "jazz" on it would be a nice thing to have.

In other good news for WUOT, they are advertising for a new full-time position to report on education issues in the Southeast. The funding comes through a two-year grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. UOT already does the best radio reporting on local issues in town (almost by default,  since few of the commercial stations even bother anymore--no, Hallerin Hill doesn't count as reporting). This sounds like it will be a welcome addition to their journalistic roster.
