The Daily Pulse:

Stacey's Valentine's Day: Coda

Even if Stacey Campfield didn't take me up on my offer of a date, we were happy to hear that he received more valentines from the Tennessee Immigrants and Refugees Rights Coalition than any other legislator - a whopping 60! We can only assume this show of affection was all due to us here at Metro Pulse.

The Knoxville News Sentinel's Tom Humphrey reports (although, sadly, he does not mention Stacey's non-love poem to me):

A small group of the organization's members delivered the valentines - and one of the teddy bears - to Campfield's office Monday afternoon with some reporters watching. The senator greeted them warmly.

"Aw, you guys are so sweet," he said, posing for a picture with group members and the teddy bear. "I am a longtime advocate of legal immigration or refugee rights."

He posed for a picture [with] Remziya Suleyman, policy coordinator; Lindsey Harris, project coordinator and others while holding the teddy bear.

Harris said Campfield "by far" was the biggest recipient of valentines and the overall effort netted the coalition about $1,500. She said the group made sure each legislator received at least one valentine, even if nobody paid to send it.

We are impressed with Stacey's good humor about this whole thing, and we do sincerely hope that basketful of valentines made his day just a little brighter yesterday - even if the teddy bear didn't have on a luchador mask. We can only hope TIRRC will steal this idea for next year ...
