Tierney Bates, who ran for the 2nd District City Council seat in 2009, announced Thursday that he'll be a candidate this year for one of the open at-large Council seats. Bates, who works in the development office for the University of Tennessee's College of Architecture and Design, is 33, and plays up his age in his press release: "Many of those who know me will understand that it is time for the leadership torch to be passed to the next generation." He says he is running for At Large Seat B, currently held by the term-limited Chris Woodhull.
