For the civic-minded and/or loudmouthed, there are two opportunities this evening to let your local leaders know what you think.
From 6:30-8:30 p.m., the citizens task force Compassion Knoxville is holding the second of two large-scale meetings seeking community input on how to deal with homelessness. Aimed at drawing participation from the western sector of the county, it will be hosted at Mercy Hospital West in Turkey Creek, 10820 Parkside Drive. The meeting is in the hospital's classrooms 1 and 2.
Also at 6:30, Knox County Commission is holding a public hearing on County Mayor Tim Burchett's proposed budget, in the Main Assembly Room of the City County Building. Several proposed cuts or freezes in Burchett's budget have generated controversy, from the lack of pay increases for county workers to a 92 percent cut in the grant to the Beck Cultural Exchange Center. Commission is scheduled to vote on the budget June 13, but commissioners want to hear thoughts from their constituents. Here's your chance.
