It's still not a done deal, but Sierra Nevada has inched another step closer to locating an East Coast brewery in Alcoa ... maybe. Company spokesperson Bill Manley confirmed today that Sierra Nevada co-founder and owner Ken Grossman has spent the past few days checking out the Alcoa and Maryville area with his family, who are also involved in the brewery's operations. Blount County Chamber of Commerce CEO Bryan Daniels declined to elaborate on Grossman's visit, citing a non-disclosure agreement, but he said it was premature to say the company would be choosing Alcoa.
Manley, however, was slightly more forthcoming. He said that Sierra Nevada still has yet to fully decide if they are going to even build an East Coast brewery, but a decision will be happening soon. He also noted that a proposed North Carolina location is no longer in the picture, and that if the brewery does happen, it will either be in Alcoa or at a location outside Roanoke, Va. "We suspect there's another month of due diligence," Manley said.
