According to an article in today's Monroe County Advocate and Democrat, same-gender couple Carol Ann and Laura Stutte are counter-suing the insurance company, American National Property and Casualty Company, that did not pay their claims after a Sept. 4 fire claimed their Vonore, Tenn. home. The couple has consistently maintained that the fire was arson and a hate crime, and Feb. 2 filed suit against alleged arsonist Janice Millsaps, their next-door neighbor.

Two weeks ago, the insurance company filed suit against the Stuttes and Chase Home Finance, LLC, in U.S. District Court in Knoxville after their investigation allegedly returned evidence the women burned their own house down.
