The Daily Pulse:

Ivan Harmon Wants to Fix Your Mailbox

Hey! Ivan Harmon has some commercials! The first campaign commercials of any of the mayoral candidates! (At least, according to their YouTube accounts.)

This is kind of like that moment when you see the first daffodil in late February and you know that truly, spring is on its way - only in this case, it means the campaign season will soon be in full, glorious blossom. We haven't seen any of Harmon's ads on tv yet (but then most of our tv watching revolves around ESPN, which probably won't figure heavily in local campaign ad buys). But you can watch all the spots on his YouTube channel. (There are three 30-second spots and four 15-second spots that are all clips from the longer ads.)

Interestingly, the voiceover for the first ad, "Candidate Ivan Harmon," states "Republican Ivan Harmon" near the beginning of the ad:

Then there is "Neighbor Ivan Harmon," in which Ivan Harmon promises to fix the broken mailboxes of all city residents personally (or something like that):

Finally there is "Coach Ivan Harmon," which we simply can't wrap our head around, possibly because it's Monday and we had a late night with Dolly and an even later night with the Red Sox, but more likely because, um, wow - just watch:

This is the 15-second spot, by the way - the full 30-second "Coach Ivan Harmon" is linked to above and follows this segment with something about teaching, but we stopped paying attention after the kid grows up to be a minister, and we figured you would too, so we just posted the short version. We aren't quite sure what baseball has to do with preaching has to do with one's qualifications to become mayor, but this is definitely a campaign ad we could - and will - watch over and over and over.

Now we really can't wait for the full flowering of the campaign season.
