The Daily Pulse:

New Life for the White Lily Factory

Dewhirst Properties has purchased the White Lily Flour factory, for a reported sale price of $340,000. Built in the 1880s by J. Allen Smith, the tall, broad, brick factory between the Old City and the Greyhound Bus Station was for more than a century famous for producing White Lily Flour. Smuckers' bought the company a few years ago and moved the flour-production to the Midwest, removing all the equipment. The purchase does not affect the modern parts of the sprawling plant.

Dewhirst hopes to put as many as 50 apartments in the building, which has a long front on Central Street. They don't expect to commence construction for a couple of years, but once completed, it would seem another major link in joining downtown to the Emory Place area, Downtown North, and Fourth and Gill.
