The Daily Pulse:

Padgett Spending Some Cash

Last week we brought you the news that some Mark Padgett donors were grumbling because the mayoral candidate had yet to roll out a big media campaign. Well, the big spending has apparently started, as Padgett has launched his first television ad since a family Christmas message last December. Here's the ad. (It's not as awesome as those Ivan Harmon ads.)

Here's the script of the ad:

As a kid, I washed dishes in my family's restaurant right across the street from my grandparent's house here in Lonsdale.

I'm Mark Padgett.

Five years ago, with $5,000 and a borrowed laptop, I started a business in Knoxville that makes it possible for local governments to cut red tape and let people do more online.

Now, I'm running for mayor of this great city because Knoxville deserves a leader who will create private sector jobs by helping small businesses succeed and by attracting new companies to Knoxville.  With your help, we can keep moving Knoxville forward.

What the script doesn't mention is the baby tossing. He tosses his daughter recklessly in the air! What kind of a parent is Mark Padgett? (We kid, we kid.) But really, there's no surprise that Padgett mentions either the laptop and $5,000 or Lonsdale, because if you've seen him at any campaign event, you've seen him mention both. However, the cheery nature of the ad is a refreshing contrast to some of the political bickering that's been going on in certain online blogs and forums lately; we hope the rest of Padgett's campaign stays this positive.

The campaign has also put up fourteen billboards, one of which we saw last night on Chapman Highway, not too far from an Ivan Harmon billboard that's been up for a while - and just a few blocks from the home of frontrunner Madeline Rogero. Here's what they look like:

Personally, we really like the looks of Padgett's dog. We hope if Padgett is elected that pup becomes a staple of City Council meetings.
