We here at Metro Pulse love the cute fuzzy things. (Well, most of us. We sometimes just have to ignore our coworkers who don't actually love kitten videos, because seriously, what is wrong with them?) So it is with that love that we bring you the following news about local political pets.
First, mayoral candidate Mark Padgett's dog Cappy - yes, he of the moppy hair featured on billboards throughout the city - now has an online presence on Facebook, and Laura Braden of Padgett's campaign notes the pup already has more "friends" than some of the other actual human candidates. Notable pals of Cappy include City Council candidate Marshall Stair, county trustee John Duncan, state Rep. Ryan Haynes, and omnipresent lawyer Stephen Burroughs. (Also, this reporter, but as always, it's solely for reporting purposes.)
Second, and much more sadly, we bring you the news that County Mayor Tim Burchett's pet rabbit Flop, a Flemish Giant, has died. Allison Burchett tweeted her distress over the death last night, and the mayor's communications manager Michael Grider confirmed the loss this morning. "Mayor says he was a really sweet rabbit. They have had him for a few years," Grider writes in an e-mail. Having lost our own dear pets, we know how sad it is, and so all our sympathies go out to the Burchetts in this, their time of sorrow.
