Okay, let's face it: For the next week, there's not a whole lot going on beyond preparing for New Year's Eve, celebrating New Year's Eve, and then recovering from New Year's Eve. So trying to come up with a daily list of events becomes problematic. Therefore, we're going to issue just one long master list of stuff to do in the post-Christmas week, plus some links to the NYE stuff.
Be safe!
Monday, Dec. 26
The Mary Johnson Rockers
Noon, WDVX. Free.
It's the day after Christmas--take in a free show! While we haven't heard their music before, we do like their name.
Tuesday, Dec. 27
The Reigns Band
10 p.m., Preservation Pub. $3.
The Reigns Band switches between raw, naked blues and crunching hard-rock riffs.
Wednesday, Dec. 28
Bookaholics Book Group
Noon, Union Avenue Books. Free.
Confess your book addiction with others; the club will be discussing Nancy Mitford's Love in a Cold Climate.
Thursday, Dec. 29
Demon Waffle with Pegasi 51
10 p.m., Preservation Pub. $3.
Demon Waffle's group of classically trained musicians party it up with reggae-rock, while Pegasi 51 fuses 80s alt-rock, Goth, and industrial.
Friday, Dec. 30
Aftah Party
10 p.m., Barley's Taproom.
Celebrate New Year's a day early with Keith and Kenneth Brown's party-hearty old-school R&B and hip hop.
Saturday, Dec. 31
Happy New Year's!
All over town.
For a list of NYE parties with live music, go to our online calendar. Otherwise, the official city celebration is First Night Knoxville happening downtown with a jumbo-size list of performers and venues (see firstnightknoxville.com).
Sunday, Jan. 1
New Years Day 5K Run and Walk
9:30 a.m., Volunteer Landing. $20-$25.
That's right--you're going to sweat off the previous night's adventures at the Knoxville Track Club's annual New Year's Day race along the river. You can do it!
