We like to laugh at state Sen. Stacey Campfield, and on very rare occasions we even agree with him, but this is just too much. While appearing on the Huffington Post's Michelangelo Signorile's radio show, Campfield made the following assertions about AIDS, along with some choice other remarks about being gay in general.
"Most people realize that AIDS came from the homosexual community -- it was one guy screwing a monkey, if I recall correctly, and then having sex with men. It was an airline pilot, if I recall.""My understanding is that it is virtually -- not completely, but virtually -- impossible to contract AIDS through heterosexual sex...very rarely [transmitted]."
In addition to both these things being patently false, they're also incredibly offensive. (Not that we're surprised.) Anyway, should you want to hear the rest of the nonsense the man representing almost half of this county thinks, you can listen to the whole interview here.
