Some Knoxville area civil rights activists feared Bistro at the Bijou might lose customers when it was made known that owner and cook Martha Boggs denied Sunday brunch service to state Senator Stacey Campfield, saying she didn't want the "hate" from the politician currently sponsoring Tennessee's "Don't Say Gay" legislation in her place.
No worries there, at least so far. Even with a sidewalk menu boasting chicken livers and "No Stacey," the place was bustling at 12:30 p.m., with a smiling Boggs hustling to seat diners. Yes, she still created the menu and made the soup today. She's been a little too busy working to tally all the pundit essays and facebook supporters she's garnered today, but was pleased to hear she was getting support (and some pretty well worded arguments against her approach, too.) Before pausing just a second for this photo, she remarked: "All I really did was just finally lose my temper. He just looked so smug!"
