What was the recording process for Gossamer like?
I was not apart of the recording process.
How has it been jumping into rehearsals?
It's been interesting. The way it works is, Mike [Michael Angelakos, lead singer/songwriter] is the studio guy. He writes all the music and the songs, and then we get everything at rehearsal and take it all apart and put it back together to make it work on stage. So it's been like a month or so of learning these songs and getting them ready.
What are those rehearsals like?
This time around, they're actually really good. We pull eight to nine hours every day, which is pretty impressive for us because we all have ADD and can't do anything for more than like, two hours.
There is some hype surrounding the new album. Does that have an effect on you guys?
We try to let it not to. I feel like if you read that stuff too much it just makes you nervous and anxious. So we kind of just let it ride and hope that people enjoy it.
When does the tour start for you?
We're about to start this next week, and we'll be touring off and on through December.
What's it like on the tour bus when you're stuck together for two months?
It's usually fine. We all get along with each other and we're all friends. I feel like it's pretty subdued compared to what people probably assume. Everyone's usually just sitting around playing video games and watching movies.
What do you listen to on tour?
It's always different. Some of us, like me, have this huge music library and always listening to something new. We all have similar taste, but we also have different taste. I usually don't blast stuff from the lounge cause I tend to..people don't want to listen to what I listen to. On the plane yesterday I listened to LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip, and Broken Social Scene.
What city are you looking forward to playing the most?
Kind of all of them. I don't know if we've ever played Knoxville specifically, but we've played around it so I'm excited for that. We're going to play Norfolk, VA, which I think it's our third time going to Norfolk, so that'll be fun. The next six months are all full of really good and cool shows and we're excited about them.
