City's Parks and Rec Department Accepting Applications for Nonprofit Grant Money

Hey, nonprofits! The City of Knoxville's Parks and Recreation Department wants applications for its Challenge Grant Program. The program has $25,000 to help fund nonprofit projects that have to do with parks and recreation areas within the city limits. The city will also reimbuse 50 percent of a project's cost (up to $2,500).

Past project grants have gone toward playground equipment, water fountains, benches, and landscaping, and have been granted to community groups, homeowner associations, schools, and Scout troops.

Applications and grant parameters are listed here. You can also call 865-215-2017 for information on the program.

Applications must be in by Sept. 17.
