TGIF, kiddies! It's finally the weekend! After workin' for the weekend all week, we finally get to PLAY! HOORAY! Here's some suggestions for your weekend activities, starting with a busy Friday. Enjoy!
Friday
Hey mamas, do you have toddlers? Do you want something to do with those toddlers? Take them to the Mommy and Me Children's Art Class at Smart Toys and Books at 10 a.m. It's $5 for mamas and kiddos ages 2 and up.
Hey, tattoo lovers! There's a Tattoo Convention taking place from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Holiday Inn (World's Fair Park). There will be 30 artists showcasing their work, along with live tattooing, tattoo contests, seminars, and other cool things. Check it out!
Did you read the cover story this week about Knoxville's urban wilderness? This weekend, Knoxville's Outdoor Festival is also going on. For three days, get your outdoorsiness on by hiking, paddling, adventure racing and more.
Old Crow Medicine Show is playing the Tennessee Theatre with the Lumineers and the Milk Carton Kids at 8 p.m. Purchase tickets here--they're $37. This folksy-Americana band is not to be missed!
Saturday
At 8 a.m., get out and support the Man Run, which is a 10K/5K race and 1-mile fun run to promote awareness of prostate cancer. Hey, we run for breast cancer, so show our boys (har har) some love and spread awareness of this form of cancer. The run starts at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
At 10:30 a.m. (until 1), the East Tennessee Border Collie Rescue will be at the Agri Feed Pet Supply. Have you always wanted a Border Collie? Might be a good time to give one a new home! Call 865-584-3959 for more info!
From 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., join in and celebrate the seventh-annual Mechanicsville Homecoming. The community parade starts at 11 a.m. at Fifth and University. At 6, go see the Hard Knox Roller Girls at the Knoxville Coliseum take on the Tragic City Rollers from Birmingham, Ala. The Hard Knox Brawlers will challenge the TRC Plan B. Tickets are $8-$12 and donations will also be accepted for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Erick Baker and Elenowen are playing the Bijou Theatre at 8 p.m. This local artist has quietly gained success through word-of-mouth and old fashioned radio play. Pretty quaint, eh? Tickets are $19.50-$23. Buy them here.
Sunday
Daniel C. Dulik will be signing copies of his book The Big Book of Dan at Panera Bread in Maryville from 3-5 p.m.
Check out some stand-up comedy at the Preservation Pub at 8 p.m. 21+ crowd only.
