The Daily Pulse:

River Sports Outfitters Hasn't Moved Out of the Adventure Center

There have been some rumors floating around that River Sports Outfitters had moved out of the Outdoor Knoxville Adventure Center on the river in favor of their new digs on Market Square.

However, River Sports owner Ed McAlister just said that's absolutely untrue.

"We moved some retail stock. We had some heavy winter stock down there [at the Adventure Center.] Obviously it was the wrong mix," he said.

People don't go down to the Adventure Center to buy winter coats or winter activity gear, and that's why McAlister decided to moved those heavy winter items elsewhere.

River Sports also has a location on Sutherland Avenue, but when the opportunity came up to take up residence in a Market Square storefront, McAlister said he went ahead and took it before someone else snapped it up.

But not to worry--River Sports may have moved its winter gear downtown, but you can still rent bikes and river boats at the Adventure Center.

"Nothing's really changed at the Adventure Center. We'll rent if someone calls, but we're not there seven days a week [during the winter.] Come March, we'll bring back more retail items," McAlister said.

Carol Evans, executive director of Legacy Parks (of which the Adventure Center is a part), did not return calls for comment last week about the rumored move.

McAlister also said he'll be putting out a press release later today about the new downtown location. Stay tuned!
