The Weekend Plan-It: John Prine, Fall Fairy House Festival, and La Boheme

Good morning, kiddies! We made it through another week! Good job! Let's all have a celebratory cup of coffee. Go crazy and add a little sugar (or a little extra sugar). If you haven't made any plans for the weekend, let us help you out. There's literally a ton of stuff to do. Here are the highlights. Check out our calendar for more stuff.

At 10 a.m., Smart Toys and Books will host a Mommy, Daddy, and Me art class for $5. Kiddos ages 2 and up can create to their little hearts' content. (And so can the mamas and the papas!) Call (865) 691-1154 for more info.

Get your lunch and head over to the visitor center at noon to check out Donna Ulisse and the Riverbreaks at WDVX's Blue Plate Special. Not only do you get to hear some really good tunes, but it's also free!

If you're out in Farragut around 2 p.m., head to the Town Hall for a Veteran's Day reception, which includes free tours through the Folklife Museum. Pretty good deal!

The Atomic Horns will be playing at the Knoxville Museum of Art at 6 p.m. It's free to attend, and you get to check out some cool art while listening. Could you ask for more?

At 7 p.m., contributors to the University of Tennessee's magazine Grist: The Journal for Writers will read some of their work at Union Avenue Books. It's free to attend, literary nerds!

Also at 7, the Pilot Light's Dia De Los Muertos Fest starts. There's a bunch of cool bands playing (here's the lineup), and it's only $6 to get in. 18+ only.

In the mood for some funnies? Carl Labove will be at Sidesplitter's Comedy Club at 7:45. The L.A. comic toured in the early '80's with Sam Kinision. Tickets to see Labove are $8-$14. Buy them here.

The legendary John Prine will be playing at the Tennessee Theatre tonight at 8 with Willie Watson. There's very little that needs to be said about Prine, other than get to the theater if you're a fan. Tickets are $49-$59. Buy them here.

The WDVX's 15 Years on the Radio concert will be held at the Bijou Theatre tonight at 8 also. Tickets to the show (more info here and here on who's playing) are $25. Buy them here.

At 9 p.m., the Tom Johnson Duo will be playing at the Bistro at the Bijou. It's free to attend, but be polite and order a drink. 

Midnight Voyage Live, the dance night sponsored by WUTK's electronic music program, starts at 10 p.m. at the Cider House. Tickets are $7-$15. Buy them here

At 8:30 a.m., St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Maryville will be hosting an AARP Driver Safety class. Call (865) 584-9964 for more info. 

There's only a couple more weeks of the Market Square Farmer's Market--get there before it's closed for the winter. It starts at 9 a.m. and goes till 2 p.m.

At 1 p.m., take your kiddos to the Ijams Nature Center for the Fall Fairy House Festival. For $10, the kids can make winter homes for little flying things. It's fun! Call (865) 577-4717 ext. 130 for more info.

Pellissippi State Theatre will present "Arabian Nights" at 7:30 at the community college. Tickets are $8-$12. To purchase them, call (865) 694-6684 or email EIther over the phone or by email, please indicate how many tickets you'd like to purchase and for which performance. YOu can also buy them at the ticket office an hour before the show starts.

Mary Gauthier and Scott Nolan will be playing at the Square Room at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20. Buy them here.

J.D. McPherson and Sean Rowe will be playing at the Shed at 8 p.m. Tickets to that show are $15. Buy them here

Brendon James Wright and Wrongs will be playing at Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria at 10 p.m. It's free to get in! Go check out some cool music!

After brunch, head over to Union Avenue Books at 2 p.m. to hear Ted Olsen read from his new book of poetry Revelations. It's free to attend.

At 2:30, the UT Opera Theatre will have a matinee showing of "La Boheme" at the Carousel Theatre. Tickets are $5-$15. Buy them here.

At 3 p.m., head to the Ijams Nature Center for a weekly guided hike through the historic park. It's $2-$5 to join the hike. 

Also at 3 p.m. is the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra's Veteran's Day Concert at the Clayton Center for the Arts. Music by Cookeville composer Greg Danner will be featured. Tickets to the show are $6-$26. Buy them here.

At 8 p.m., Peelander-Z will be playing at the Valarium with Electric Eel Shock and My Parents' Favorite Music. Tickets to the show are $5-$11. Buy them here. 18+ only. 

The Six Time Losers will be playing a free show at the Well at 9 p.m. It's a good way to wind down the weekend. 21+ only.
