The Weekend Plan-It: Snow Day, WDVX's World Class Blues Show, and the Zac Brown Band

Hey, all you crazy kids! Since it's icy out this morning, the Friday plans will start a little later in the afternoon. Be careful driving! But still, check out the cool stuff that's going on tonight and throughout the weekend.

At noon, the 10 String Symphony will play at WDVX's Blue Plate Special with Crispy Watkins in the visitor center. Check the station's website if you're paranoid about cancellations.

Still can't get enough ghost hunting?! Tonight at 6, paranormal investigators Jennifer and Wayne Roder will be at Ijams Nature Center for demonstrations with EMF readers, EVP recorders, IR lasers, and grid lights (!). It's $20-$25 to join in. Call (865) 577-4717 ext. 110 for more info.

At 7 p.m., get to Beardsley Farm's benefit Snow Day. It's at Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria, and features a soup off, a beard pageant, and a silent auction. Admission is $7, and it's $3 to have some soup!

Hey, how'd you like that George Clooney/Ryan Gosling  flick "Ides of March?" Tonight at 8, the Oak Ridge Playhouse will feature the play that inspired the movie, "Farragut North." Admittedly, Clooney and Gosling will not be present, but hey--can't win 'em all. Tickets are  $16-$22. To reserve them, call (865) 482-9999. 

At 9 p.m., Amanda Shires will play at the Well with Troy Suggs and the Delinquency. Cover is $7. 21+ only.

At 10, the Preservation Pub Annex will be hosting a '60s soul party with DJs Graham and Nate. 21+ only.

Get up and at 'em bright and early and head over to the Amused Life Center for a little zumba.  The 45-minute class is $5.

Hey, gardening types! The Ijams Nature Center is hosting a seed swap from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's free to attend and share you seeds! Call (865) 577-4717 ext. 110 for more info!

A two-part workshop on job finding 101 will go down at noon till 4:30 at the East Tennessee History Center. Find out how to use some resources through the Knox County Public Library to help your efforts. Free to attend! Call (865) 215-8700 for more info.

At 2 p.m., Ken Foster will be at Union Avenue Books to read from, and sign copies of, his book I'm a Good Dog about pit bulls. Free to attend!

The Fountain City Arts Center is hosting an emergency fundraiser to help repair its heating system, and it's doing so by holding a "Try This!" tasting party. For $10, go try recipes from the FCAC cookbook published in December. The tasting starts at 4 p.m.

WDVX's World Class Blues Show will be at the Bijou Theatre at 7:30. The lineup includes Balsam Range, Brand New Strings, and Dismembered Tennesseans. Tickets are $21.50-$26.50. Buy them here.

Vinegar Creek Constituency will play at Boyd's Jig and Reel at 9:30. The show's free! 18+ only.

After brunch, head to the Clayton Center for the Arts to Check out the Evelyn Miller Young Pianist Series, which will feature Steven Lin. Tickets are $5 for students and $15 for adults. You can buy them at the door, or by calling (865) 981-8590. 

At 4 p.m., David Madden will do a dramatic reading of his novel London Bridge in Plague and Fire at the Bijou Theatre. It's free to attend! Don't miss it!

Slow Food Knoxville will have a saved-up pot luck at the Birdhouse at 6 p.m. Bring your canned, frozen, dried, and preserved foods! Fiona McAnally will be on hand to talk about heirloom seeds and seed saving in Knoxville.

At 7 p.m., the Zac Brown Band will play at the Thompson-Boling Arena. Tickets are $29.50-$64.50. Buy them here.
