The Weekend Plan-It: Freight Hoppers, Black Lillies, and Warm Soda (Must Be Spring!)

Woooo! We made it! It's the weekend! No one will blame you for pulling a Mia Hamm. I have that on good authority. So check out how you're going to celebrate the weekend (with or without a shirt--that's for you to decide). 

FRIDAY
There will be income tax assistance available at Farragut Town Hall today starting at 9 a.m. Volunteers will help low-income and senior e-file their taxes. 

Erisa Rei will play at noon in the visitor center for WDVX's Blue Plate Special with Shelley King. It's free to attend, as always, so grab your lunch head over there.

At 6 p.m., the Amused Life Collective will have a hip-hop dance fitness class. It's $5 to drop in and join the class.

Tonight at 7, the Knoxville Children's Theatre will present "Bridge to Terabithia." It's an adaptation of Katherine Paterson's coming-of-age YA novel set in rural Virginia. Tickets are $12. Visit the group's website for more info.

The Freight Hoppers will play at the Laurel Theatre tonight at 8. Tickets to see the old-time band are $14. Buy them here.

Louisiana bluesman Josh Garrett will play at Brackins Blues Club in Maryville tonight at 9. 21+ only.

San Francisco DJ and producer An-Ten-Nae (who refers to his beats as "acid crunk") will perform at NV Nightclub tonight at 10 with Aligning Minds, We Roll Like Madmen, and Arts & Crafts. Tickets are $10-$15. 

SATURDAY
At 9 a.m., the East Tennessee History Center will host scholars from the Southeast to talk about Tennessee's role in the War of 1812. It's free to attend, and part of the center's commemoration of the bicentennial of the war. For more info, call (865) 215-8824 or email ethos@easttnhistory.org.

At 10 a.m., the UT Gardens will host the Easter Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt for kiddos ages 3 to 12. It's $6 to participate and goes till 2 p.m. For more info, call (865) 974-2712 or email ewillis2@utk.edu.

The Emporium Center for Arts and Culture will host a West African dance and aerobics class at 11 a.m. It's $10 to attend.

Take the afternoon off to prepare for the Black Lillies' show at the Tennessee Theatre at 8 p.m. with Slim Langhorne. Tickets are $26.50. Buy them here.

Underhill Rose will play at Boyd's Jig and Reel at 10 p.m. No cover! 18+ only.

SUNDAY
After brunch, you history buffs should head over to the Frank H. McClung Museum for a talk from the museum's Civil War curator Dr. Joan Markel about "Civil War Maps of East Tennessee: An Update." It's free to attend!

At 3:30, Circle Modern Dance will have an improvisational dance class at the Emporium Center for Arts and Culture. No experience necessary! It's $5 to attend. Ages 13+ only.

It's Knoxville poetry slam night at the Well at 7 p.m. No cover! 21+ only. 

Oakland power-pop outfit Warm Soda will play at the Groundswell Collective at 10 p.m. with Burning Itch. No cover!
