If Ryan Reed's cover profile of Cruz Contreras and the Black Lillies in last week's issue made you curious about the band's new album (or if you were already a fan and eagerly anticipating Runaway Freeway Blues), you can stream it at the Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy blog.
WSJ's Eric R. Danton describes the new album, the band's third:
The songs have a rootsy flair, mixing folk, honky-tonk country and gospel into a winsome hybrid traditional enough to appeal to an Opry crowd -- no independent act has performed there more than the Black Lillies -- and expansive enough to ensnare a broader audience.
