The Daily Pulse:

Campfield Prevails in Defamation Suit

Betty Bean with the scoop:

Jacksboro, Tenn., April 24, 2013: Stacey Campfield won his motion for summary judgment Wednesday when Campbell County Circuit Court Judge John McAffee dismissed a defamation suit against him.

"Politics is a big boy's game," McAffee said, "Sometimes you just get beat."

Former candidate Roger Byrge, a Democrat whom Campfield falsely described on his blog, Camp4U, as having been arrested multiple times for drug offenses, sued Campfield for $750,000 after suffering a narrow election loss to his Republican opponent. McAffee accepted Campfield's defense that he relied on information passed on to him by another GOP officeholder and said that Campfield's 1st Amendment rights outweigh the harm done to Byrge.

Byrge was to meet with his attorney David Dunaway after court to discuss the possibility of an appeal.
