The Daily Pulse:

Barkley Marathons in Outside Magazine

The Barkley Marathons, the semi-legendary 100-mile ultramarathon held in Frozen Head State Park every spring, seems to finally be getting the attention it deserves, even if it's sometimes a little more than the race's supporters want.

Outside magazine published a feature on the race yesterday. Madison Kahn interviews race director and co-founder Gary Cantrell, the other co-founder, Karl Henn, and two-time Barkley competitor Beverly Abbs for the story, which details the history of the race, its unique status in the world of ultrarunning, and how smart you have to be to finish.

It's the second instance of national coverage for the race this year; a New York Times story about the race appeared just before this year's event in late March.
