The Weekend Plan-It: The New Familiars, Rev3 Triathlon, and I Bike KNX Festival

Good morning! It's here! Friday has come! Three cheers! Now, if you don't already have plans, take a look at some of the highlights this weekend.

At noon, Jach Grelle and the Johnson Family will play for WDVX's Blue Plate Special at noon in the visitor center with Hardin Valley Thunder. It's free to attend. Bring your lunch!

Want to support some graduating UT art and architecture students? Head to the Ewing Gallery at 3 p.m. for a reception in honor of the 2013 Honors Exhibit. It's free to attend.

Then at 5 p.m., head over to the Downtown Gallery. There will be a reception for the art educators whose work is displayed there as part of the ArtSource 2013 exhibit. It's also free to attend. Then check out the rest of First Friday!

North Carolina folk-rockers The New Familiars will play at the Relix Variety Theatre tonight at 7 with Kelsey's Woods and Guy Marshall. Tickets are $10. 

At 8 p.m., head over to Hanna's in the Old City for Retro Dance Night. It's $5 to get in. 21+ only.

Dark folk-rockers Murder by Death will play at the Pilot Light at 10 p.m. with Frontier Ruckus. Tickets are $15. Buy them here. 18+ only.

The Rev3 Triathon starts at 8 a.m. with a swim in the Tennessee River. The route winds its way to the base of the Smokies and back through Knoxville, where racers will cross the finish line at World's Fair Park to party (maybe). 

At 9 a.m., the first GREEN + GO tour of Knoxville's greenest buildings, and covers 8 of them in town. Each building will have an expert to talk about the green features. It's free to attend, but you must RSVP here

The Ramsey House Plantation will host Skirmish on the Holston: A Civil War Reenactment starting at 10 a.m. It's $5 to attend. History buffs, don't miss it!

Like the ponies? Head over to Crescent Bend at 1 p.m. to celebrate Kentucky Derby Day and watch the race. It's $125 to attend, and the proceeds will go to benefit Crescent Bend. For more info call (865) 335-7332 or visit Crescent Bend's website.

Fashion Week will have a children's runway event at 4 p.m. at the Marriott on E. Hill Ave. Check out Fashion Week's website for more details and ticket information.

Kelsey's Woods frontman Dave Kennedy will play a solo show at the Preservation Pub at 8 p.m. It's free to attend! 21+ only.

The Tennessee Stage Company will present "Radio Daze," a tribute to the 1930's golden age of radio, which will include an homage to detective fiction shows, and an episode of the classic radio adventure drama The Shadow. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12. Buy them here.

After brunch, head to Market Square at 2 p.m. for the I Bike KNX Festival. There will be bike decorating, safety classes, a blessing of the bikes, and a bike stand contest. There will also be a family-friendly bike ride through Ijams at 2:30 and back downtown. Check out the event website for more info.

The Smoky Mountain Blues Society Blues Cruise takes off at 3 p.m. and will feature a performance by Big Gene and Daddy Lee's Loudpack. Tickets are $13-$16. 

The Vegetarian Society of East Tennessee will meet for a pot luck dinner at 6 p.m. It's $3 to attend. For more info call (865) 546-5643 or visit the group's website.

NV Nightclub will have a tribute to Daft Punk by recreating the 2007 tour. Tickets are $8-$12. Buy them here. 18+ only.
