The Weekend Plan-It: Trapt, Terror in the Woods, and Vinyl Night

Good morning! Did everyone survive the day drinking? Yes? Good? Here's what's going on this weekend.

FRIDAY
L Shape Lot will play for WDVX's Blue Plate Special at noon in the visitor center with Hiding Scarlet. As always, it's free to attend! Bring your lunch!

First Friday kicks off around 5 p.m., and there are several new exhibits to go see. Jewelry maker Jennifer Lindsay and photographer Dennis Sabo will have their work displayed at the Art Market Gallery. The "Knoxville Photo 2013" exhibit at the Emporium Center for Arts and Culture features 36 photos by photographers from around the Southeast. The Downtown Gallery's "Print Resonance" display features a selections of 50 prints by students from five international universities, including UT. Get there and have some wine while you take a gander!

Local author Katy Koontz will be on WDVX at 6 p.m. (and live at the visitor center) to read from, and sign copies of, her new guidebook for families, Family Fun in the Smokies. It's free to attend!

Trapt will perform at NV Nightclub at 7 p.m. with Candlelight Red. Tickets are $12-$15. Buy them here

Wrap up the night at the Preservation Pub, where Shiffty and the Headmasters will play at 10 p.m. No cover! 21+ only.

SATURDAY
Looking for a new pooch? The Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue will be on hand at Agri Feed Pet Supply from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more info, call (865) 584-3959 and check out the rescue group's website. Who wouldn't want to cuddle those doggies?

Food Not Bombs will have its weekly community picnic (vegetarian/vegan fare!) at 2:30 in Krutch Park. It's free to attend.

Knoxville Horror Film Festival's Terror in the Woods event will be at Ijams Nature Center, and gets started at 7 p.m. with a fan-selected horror flick, followed by a costume contest, a haunted trail hike, some short films, and then a screening of Eli Craig's Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. It's $10 to attend!

Nashville singer/songwriter Todd Snider will play at the Shed in Maryville at 8 p.m. with Sam Lewis. Tickets are $20. Buy them here.

Hudson K, who just released their new album Ouroboros and the Black Dove, will play at the Preservation pub at 10 p.m. with the Royal Buzz. It's $5 to get in. 21+ only.

SUNDAY
Sleep late, have brunch, take a nap, and then head over to the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church for the Vegetarian Society of East Tennessee's regular monthly meeting, which includes a class on the "plant-perfect diet" and then a potluck DINNER! It's only $3 to attend. For more info call (865) 546-5643 or visit the society's website.

At 8 p.m., check out the Preservation Pub's Upstairs Underground Stand-Up Comedy Show. There's no cover! 21+ only.

Lost and Found Records will have Vinyl Night starting at 9 p.m. Listen to some old favorites on vinyl and hear some new tunes. It's free to attend! 21+ only.
