This morning Sen. Lamar Alexander made a brief swing through Knoxville, stopping at the Holiday Inn on Cedar Bluff Rd. to receive an award from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, which was in the midst of its annual meeting. After the presentation, Alexander stopped to chat with a few reporters in the lobby.
You can watch the full video below, but here's the takeout: Alexander thinks it's a great idea that former Arkansas Gov, Mike Huckabee has asked people to pray for him -- "All of us in public life need the prayers of the people," he says -- and he's not a liberal Republican, no matter what state Rep. Joe Carr says. Also, he gets things done. He's not going to walk across the state this time to campaign, and he's not ready to commit to debates against his primary challengers just yet. Oh, and about that persistent (in these parts, anyway) rumor that Alexander's only running again so he can resign and give the seat to Gov. Bill Haslam? Well, he thinks that's pretty funny. (Fast-forward to 5:48 to see his response.)
