TIRRC: Sheriff Willing to Violate Constitutional Rights to Prove Point

The Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition issued a statement this afternoon through communications coordinator Eben Cathey, saying "Sheriff Jones's comments are inhumane and a good indicator of the real reason why the federal government refused his request for a 287(g) agreement -- the community does not trust him. 287(g) is a failed program, but in the hands of a sheriff that is willing to violate the constitutional rights of community members to prove a political point, it would be an unmitigated disaster."
