The Weekend Plan-It: The Breeders, Juicy J, and Scout Niblett

Good morning! Aren't you glad it's the weekend?! It got here quick, too. So here's what's going on.

FRIDAY
The Knoxville Watercolor Society will have its 50th anniversary show on display at the Emporium Center for Arts and Culture (which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The work will be on display through Sept. 27. Tonight at 5, there will be a First Friday reception.

The UT Science Forum is back! They'll be at Thompson-Boling Arena today at noon for a discussion on scientific misconduct led by Dr. Neal Stewart. It's free to attend. For more info, call (865) 974-8156 or email littmann@utk.edu.

Local alt-rock heroes 10 Years will perform songs from their newest album, Minus the Machine, this evening at 6 p.m. in the Old City Courtyard. They'll be joined by Kyng. Tickets are $20-$23. Buy them here

Kim Deal's non-Pixies band the Breeders will perform tonight at 8 at the Bijou Theatre. Tickets are $28. Buy them here.

Veteran NYC comic Frankie Paul will perform his stand-up routine tonight at 10:15 at Sidesplitters Comedy Club (he'll also have a set at 7:45 p.m.). Tickets are $8-$12. Buy them here. 18+ only.

SATURDAY
The Flying Anvil Theatre will have auditions at the Emporium Center for Arts and Culture from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for PAID roles in three upcoming productions (Venus in Fur, The Love Talker, and Circle Modern Transformation). Slow Food Knoxville's 6th annual Pesto Festo gets started at Erin's Meadow Herb Farm at 4 p.m. and includes five courses made with local ingredients, kids' activities, live music, and a presto contest. It's $50 to attend.

Contemporary bluegrass master Ricky Skaggs will perform at the Clayton Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25-$45. Buy them here.

Whitey Morgan and the 78s will bring their brand of old-school throwback country to the Shed in Maryville at 8 p.m., and will play with Zach Ryan and the Renegades. Tickets are $10. Buy them here.

Nashville indie-rockers Moon Taxi will play at the Bijou Theatre at 9 p.m. with Black Taxi. Tickets are $18.50-$21.50. Buy them here.

Juicy J, he of twerking-with-Miley-Cyrus fame, will perform at the Blackstock Auditorium at 9 p.m. with Kwamane, Lil Rhed, and Chris Bengston. Tickets are $40. Buy them here. 18+ only.

SUNDAY
The Tennessee Valley Fair opens at noon in Chilhowee Park. Tickets are $5-$30. 

The Tennessee Valley Exotic Bird Club will meet at Young-Williams Animal Center at 2 p.m. Birds are welcome! For more info, call (865) 363-1715. It's free to attend.
