The Daily Pulse:

The Daily Plan-It: Joel Zachry, Patty Griffin, and Amanda Shires

Good morning and happy Henley Street Bridge Re-Opening Day! Take a trip south if you haven't lately, and stop by your favorite South Knox businesses. Oh, and take a look at what's going on around town today.

Joel Zachry, author of Bears We've Met: Short Stories of Close Encounters and board member of the Appalachian Bear Rescue, will be at Pellissippi State Community College to talk about hiking in bear country. Zachry is a former Pellissippi State biology professor. The event starts at 12:30 in the Goins Building at the Hardin Valley campus. It's free to attend and open to the public.

At 6 p.m., author John Miliken Thompson will read from, and sign copies of his new book Love and Lament at Union Avenue Books. It's absolutely free to attend. (And you might as well go since the Union Ave Block Party goes from 4 til 8:30 p.m.!)

Veteran Americana singer/songwriter Patty Griffin will make a stop at the Bijou Theatre at 8 p.m. while on tour to support two new(ish) albums, American Kid and Silver Bell. Tickets are $35.50. Buy them here.

Singer, songwriter, and fiddler Amanda Shires will be in town tonight, and will bring her brand of traditional-ish country music to the Well at 8 p.m. It's $7 to attend. 21+ only.

And if you're still out and about around 10, head over to the Preservation Pub to check out the Highs. Cover's $3. 21+ only.
