We've teased it ... and now we're pumped to share the first handful of new artists added to the Big Ears 2014 lineup!Our rock edge expands with the intense, brooding trio Low, whose new record, The Invisible Way, produced by Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, was one of the most celebrated releases of 2013; a rare performance by drone-rock revolutionaries Earth; and Body/Head, the potent collaboration between former Sonic Youth bassist / singer Kim Gordon and guitarist Bill Nace, whose debut album Coming Apart landed high on many "Best of 2013" lists.Other exciting festival additions include acclaimed American folk artist Lonnie Holley, who will perform his unique and inventive music as well as conduct one of this acclaimed sculpture workshops; Buke and Gase, inventors of the beautiful handmade instruments on which they perform; David Greenberger and Prime Lens, featuring The Duplex Planet publisher and NPR contributor narrating his touching, humorous stories to the interpretive musical accompaniment, including Bob Stagner of the Shaking Ray Levis.Recently rediscovered Ethiopian music master, Hailu Mergia and Low Mentality, whose classic record Hailu Mergia & His Classic Instrument was reissued in 2013 to considerable acclaim, brings his intoxicating, African funk to the festival; and the provocative and ethereal Norwegian singer and writer, Jenny Hval, whose latest release is Innocence Is Kinky, rounds out the new additions to the lineup.We're also excited to share that the individual members of the supergroup Nazoranai, already performing at the festival, will perform solo and duo shows during the festival weekend. Japanese guitarist and vocalist Keiji Haino will bring his intensely cathartic solo experience to the festival along with an equally enthralling performance from Sunn O))) founder and doom rock pioneer Stephen O'Malley.
