The Weekend Plan-It: Todd Snider, Don Gallardo, and Nora Jane Struthers

Good morning! And congratulations on just about making it through the week! Woo! If you haven't made any plans, we have a few ideas for you.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., volunteers will be on hand at the Farragut Town Hall to help low-income earners and seniors file their taxes (for free). 

At noon, head over to the Thompson-Boling Arena Cafe for UT's weekly science forum. This week paleontology researcher Don Goldstein will lead a discussion on how Florida's geological past can help prepare us for the future. It's free to attend and open to the public! Round up the munchkins at 5:30 and head over to Smart Toys and Books. Experts will demo some new board games, and then families can play themselves. Good for ages 3+. It's free to attend!

Nashville singer/songwriter Todd Snider will perform at the Bijou Theatre with Amanda Shires at 8 p.m. Tickets are $19.50. Buy them here.

Don Gallardo, another Nashville singer/songwriter, will perform at Boyd's Jig and Reel at 10 p.m. There's no cover! 18+ only.

The Tennessee Health Care Campaign will have volunteers at Mount Calvary Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help people sign up for insurance on the health insurance marketplace. For more info, call (865) 693-7809.

At 1 p.m., the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church will have a GLBTQ family meet-up. Come to meet and mingle with parents and their children. It's free to attend! For more info, email

The Old City Mardi Gras Pub Crawl starts at 8 p.m. For $10, make the rounds at Hanna's, Southbound, Carleo's, 90 Proof, and the Wagon Wheel. Jazz bands, carnival-style acts, and New Orleans food will be involved. Buy tickets here. 21+ only.

If Mardi Gras isn't really your style, head over to the Preservation Pub, where Adam Marsland  will play a free show at 8 p.m. 21+ only.

And at 9 p.m., the Will Yager Trio will play some live jazz at the Bistro at the Bijou. Wind down over drinks there.

At 10 a.m., the Epworth Old Harp Shape Note Singing group will meet at the Laurel Theater. It's free to attend if you're interested in joining them! For more info call (865) 982-7777.

Author Amy Greene will be at Union Ave Books at 2 p.m. to sign copies of her new Depression-era Appalachian novel Long Man. It's free to attend!

Catch the last showing of Theatre Knoxville Downtown's production of "The Dixie Swim Club,"  about five former college swim teammates. Tickets are $10. Buy them here.

Wrap up the night at Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria, where Nashville Americana singer/songwirter Nora Jane Struthers will perform at 8 p.m. It's free to attend!
