Good morning! It's the weekend! Woo!!! We have some ideas if you need some plans.
Kick off the weekend at noon in the visitor center, where Lindi Ortega will perform for WDVX's Blue Plate Special with the Great Barrier Reefs. As always, it's free to attend.
At 6 p.m., the Battle of the Beards (yes, beards) starts at Relix Variety Theater. There will be more than 10 categories of beards, plus tattoos and live music. It's just $1 at the door to get in.
Bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder will perform at the Bijou Theatre with Fiddlin' Carson Peters Brothers at 8 p.m. Tickets are $42-$45. Buy them here.
East Kentucky native Dale Ann Bradley will bring her tunes to the Laurel Theater at 8 p.m. Tickets are $16. Buy them here.
Sludge-metal Georgia outfit Black Tusk will perform at the Bowery at 8 with Generation of Vipers, Pick up the Snake, and Belfast 6 Pack. Tickets are $8-$12. Buy them here. 18+ only.
Wrap up the night at the Scruff City Hall, where Nashville "tropical rock" band the Great Barrier Reefs will perform (check them out if you missed them earlier!). 21+ only.
Get your farmers market fix at the Southern Railway Station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. And the food trucks will be there.
The Tennessee Stage Company will present a table reading of Craig Smith's "Birds on the Bat" at 2 p.m. at Theatre Knoxville Downtown. It's free to go check out the behind-the-scenes action.
Houndmouth will perform at the Bijou Theatre at 8 with Rayland Baxter. Tickets are $16.50. Buy them here.
Peelander Z, a garage punk/psych band who dresses up in costumes resembling the Power Rangers, will perform at the Bowery with the Bad Dudes, Demon Waffle, and Yak Strangler. TIckets are $6-$10. Buy them here. 18+ only.
But if dancing is more up your alley, head over to NV Nightclub, where DJ Nightlife will play some tunes. It starts at 9 p.m. Cover's $5. 18+ only.
If you've been waffling about getting signed up for insurance, check out the enrollment event at the Blount County Public Library from 1 to 5 p.m. Volunteers will be available to walk you through every step up the process. And the help is free!
Then catch the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the kings of traditional New Orleans jazz, when they take the stage at the Bijou Theatre at 7 p.m. Tickets are $29.50. Buy them here.
