In addition to all the music that will be happening in the Old City and on Jackson Avenue today as part of the Dogwood Arts Festival's Rhythm N' Blooms music fest this weekend, the crew from the Live and Breathing Sessions will be on hand in the old Regas building, at the corner of Gay Street and Depot Avenue, for some laid-back recording sessions with musicians from the festival.
Live and Breathing is basically a mobile recording studio that travels around the country, taping casual sessions with a lineup of mostly rootsy Americana bands and solo performers for online broadcast. (It's hardly the first time the crew has been here--the Live and Breathing web archive includes sessions from RN'B in 2011, 2012, and 2013, a session at the old Morelock Music on Gay Street, and one called the Attack Monkey Sessions, presumably named after Chyna Brackeen's production and management company, which stages Rhythm N' Blooms.)
The sessions kick off tonight just as RN'B itself is getting started, with the Felice Brothers booked at 6 p.m. There's a lot more recording tomorrow, starting at noon--Brett Dennan, the Carolina Chocolate Drops' Dom Flemmons, Holly Williams, the Black Lillies, and a bunch more are all scheduled to stop by and play a song or two.
