The Daily Pulse:

The Weekend Plan-It: Fanboy Expo, HeRobust, and Horcerer

Good morning! It's the weekend! Boy, this week went by pretty quickly (right?). Take a look at what's going on through Sunday.

FRIDAY
Get started on the weekend early, put on your best costume, and go hang out with some fellow nerds at the Fanboy Expo (Mikey from the Goonies is going to be there, y'all!). Tickets start at $20 and go to $399. More info, including all the famous-ish people scheduled to be at the convention, is here.

At noon in the visitor center, check out Luke Leighfield, who'll perform live for WDVX's Blue Plate Special. It's free to attend, as always.

PAWS Among the Blooms--a fundraiser hosted by Knox County CAC and Placing Animals With Seniors--kicks off at 5:30 at Stanley's Greenhouse in South Knoxville. Bring your favorite furry friend, buy some gorgeous plants, listen to some live music, and eat some grub. It's $25 to attend, which benefits the PAWS program.

Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls will perform at the Bijou Theatre at 8 p.m. Tickets to the show are $19.50. Buy them here.

Wrap up the night at NV Nightclub, where HeRobust will perform at 9 p.m., along with Boombox Cartel, Spooky Jones, and Liquid Metal. Tickets are $10-$15. Buy them here. 18+ only.

SATURDAY
At 9 a.m., volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to Beardsley Community Farm to help get the place ready for summer. The workday goes until noon. For more info call (865) 546-8446.

Here's a cool thing you might not have seen before: modern-day people playing vintage baseball. Go check out the Highland Rim Distillers play the Knoxville Holstons at the Historic Ramsey House at noon. It's free to attend, and you might see a certain Jack Neely there.

Author Benjamin Ross will be on hand at Union Ave Books at 4 p.m. to discuss and sign copies of his new book Dead End: Suburban Sprawl and the Rebirth of American Urbanism. It's free to attend! Go check it out!

Classic old-school honky-tonk outfit Dale Watson and His Lone Stars will perform at the Shed in Maryville at 8 p.m., along with J.P. Harris and the Tough Choices. Tickets are $15. Buy them here.

Local experimental (experi-metal?) band Horcerer will take the stage at the Pilot Light, along with Wifepile and Criswell Collective. Show starts at 10. Cover's $5. 18+ only.

SUNDAY
The Tennessee Valley Exotic Bird Club will meet at Young-Williams Animal Center at 2 p.m. Birds are, of course, welcome to come, too! For more info call (865) 363-1715.

Catch a matinee performance of Del Shores' "Sordid Lives" at Theatre Knoxville Downtown at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10-$15. Buy them here.

Head over to Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria at 8 p.m. for some Misery and Gin--that is, some classic country, rockabilly and rock 'n' roll form Wes Lunsford, Devan Jones, Hunter Deacon, and Daniel Kimbro. It's free to attend!
