The Weekend Plan-It: Shadows Fall, Meadowlark Music Festival, and Dead Prez

Good morning, and happy Friday! If you need some plans to keep you busy this weekend, we've got some ideas for you. Take a look.

FRIDAY
At noon in the visitor center, the Corey Hunt Band will perform for WDVX's Blue Plate Special, along with Songs of Water. It's free to attend, as always.

Neo-thrash metal outfit Shadows Fall will perform at the International, along with Dead by Wednesday, Scent of Remains, DownSlave, and VanKale. The show starts at 7 p.m., and tickets are $12-$15. Buy them here. 18+ only.

As part of its Summer Movie Magic series, the Tennessee Theatre is screening Hitchcock's classic paranoia thriller Vertigo at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8. Buy them here.

Catch Denver DJ Samples at the Concourse at 9 p.m., along with Freddy Todd, and Alexander Supertrill. Tickets to the Midnight Voyage are $7-$10. Buy them here. 18+ only.

Then wrap up the night at the Pilot Light, where Cheer-Accident will perform with Pleases at 10 p.m. It's $6 to get in. 18+ only.

SATURDAY
Get up a little early (you can take a nap later) and hit the Market Square Farmers Market to pick up some veggies and maybe a pastry. It starts at 9 a.m. and goes until 2 p.m.

The Meadowlark Music Festival kicks off at Ijams Nature Center at 1 p.m. Featured bands include St. Paul and the Broken Bones and hometown boys the Black Cadillacs. Tickets are $17.50-$25. More info here.

Eccentric country outlaw Billy Joe Shaver will perform at the Shed in Maryville with Otis Gibbs at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15. Buy them here.

Get your hip-hop fix at the International starting at 9 p.m. Dead Prez will perform with Second String and Theorizt. Tickets are $15-$20. Buy them here. 18+ only. 

Finally, catch feisty New Orleans outfit the Dirty Bourbon River Show at Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria at 10 p.m. No cover! 21+ only.

SUNDAY
Author Jennie Chapman Linthorst will be at Union Ave Books from 2 to 4 p.m. to read from her latest book Silver Girl, and sign copies. It's free to attend!

At 3:30, why not try out some improvisational dance moves? Circle Modern Dance will have a class on it at the Emporium Center for Arts and Culture. It's $5 to participate. More info here.

Close out the weekend with a free show at Barley's. The Brockefellers will play at 10 p.m. 21+ only.
